Varsity Girls Blue Devils Wrestlers

 Varsity Girls Blue Devils wrestlers began their inaugural season in 2022-23 and it was a huge success. Senior Annessa Morgan will continue here wrestling career this year at Lourdes college, while Meadow Gomez participated at the first ever girls state tournament. Women’s wrestling is exploding nationwide! There have never been more opportunities for young women who want to wrestle than now. You as a Springfield Student, and you as a parent to a Springfield daughter, have a historic opportunity to be pioneers in our sport and at Springfield.  Whether your future goal is to be more confident, to be strong, to be resilient, to be a leader, there is no better teacher than the sport of wrestling.

On this page you will find more information about women's wrestling, resources for parents and girls interested in our sport.  but also our approach with the program at Springfield. It is our intention to run a class program with all the opportunities we would afford any wrestler. Opportunity to attend off-season camps, introductory camps for new wrestlers and parents. Opportunities to travel to tournaments and compete in both Home and Away competitions.  Our goal is field a complete team and become a dominant force in Northwest Ohio (and beyond).  In addition we are working to partner with local and national women's leadership organizations who will help provide additional positive role models, personal connections, and opportunities for growth.  

This is not a trial run or proof of concept. Wrestling is a Full Varsity Sport at Springfield, affording the girls the opportunity to earn varsity Letters and other awards. Also the State of Ohio has sanctioned girls wrestling this year, meaning there will be a state tournament at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus.

We understand this can seem like a big step, especially for those that have not grown up around the sport.  We will be holding an informational meeting for parents in the next few weeks, so please stay tuned.  Facts:
College Opportunities- There are now 124 women’s college wrestling programs and 76 clubs. Among those numbers are 42 NAIA programs, 68 NCAA programs, and 14 JUCO schools. Local schools like Tiffin University and Adrian College already have flourishing programs. 
Since 2004, women’s wrestling is now a recognized Olympic sport
Northwest Ohio currently has the reigning U16 and U20 National Champion
